Description
This is a great opportunity to pick up an Austrian Tunic that was converted to a Wehrmacht Heer Gebirgsjäger (Mountain Troops). (see reference book photo in this listing for period evidence of this type of tunic in wear). This was done for a short time period when Germany annexed Austria and assimilated the Austrian Army into the German Army. The Edelweiss, Officer’s breast eagle, collar tabs and shoulder boards are all war time additions to the uniform. The shoulder boards are sewn in but have the look of slip ons. Likely to avoid having to move the button down and try to cleanly sew the board into the shoulder seem. The quality jacket is finally made by the Franz Canek Company in Vienna. The company switched over to producing various Wehrmacht uniforms of high quality after the annexation. This is one rear cuff button missing from the wearers’ right arm. The officers bullion eagle is in mint condition and the edelweiss in the desirable bevo style with the bit of bullion at the top. Outside of this and some minor wear, the tunic is in fantastic condition. A nice, lesser seen tunic. The Infantry Assault badge, Close combat badge and Iron cross first class are NOT INCLUDED in the sale. They are used for the photo shoot only.
