Description

A beautiful dagger! This dagger has all the hall marks of an early dagger with the exception of the painted scabbard and RZM blade. The quality is just as good as an early dagger with all nickel fittings, excellent grip fitment and hand filed guards. The guard is also Numeral I stamped which we don’t see on later transitionals. The blade is fantastic with crisp detail, 100% visible cross graining and deeply etched motto and RZM code. There is only the smallest sign of oxidation and typical runner marks. An 8.5 out of 10 in my book. The grip is fantastic as well with no major damage or cracks. There is a small chip missing on the reverse right hand lower shoulder. As these chips go, one of the less concerning ones I’ve seen. the SS roundel is looking great with no major damage and just a bit of wear. The Eagle is perfect looking nickel example. The scabbard may have been repainted a long time ago, it is quite hard to tell for sure. If not, it’s spectacular for it’s age. The fittings are all nickel and the screw heads show only the slightest evidence of being turned. The ball end is remarkably perfect.

Overall, a scarce maker to encounter and I think one of the more desirable early transitionals you will find. An excellent investment piece.
