SMGQ-0470 “The First” First division information book Sent home by guard at Nuremberg Trials, Signed

1 in stock

This is actually a tough book to come across. Im not sure if it was given to GI’s in country or if they purchased it specifically as a memento of their time served. It has “Passed by censor for mailing home” stamp which indicates that the owner was still in freshly occupied area when he sent it home. This all lines up with the fact that the owner of the book, John J. Ulrich Jr. was assigned as a guard at the Nuremberg trials. These guards were mostly newer replacements and this all lines up with Ulrich’s enlistment date of sept 8th 1944 and his assignment date to the first on September 14th 1945 as the trials began on November 20th 1945.

His citations listed would indicate he was a good candidate to be a guard for the trial and still relatively “fresh” and of sound mind. Ulrich also brought home all 21 signatures of the Nazi’s where tried. (not included).

the books front and back covers are torn off and the paper is fragile. The front inside cover has his personal information and signature. The rear inside cover has a bunch of autographs from his peers. A fantastic item for the Big Red 1 fan or the Nuremberg collector.
