Waterloo Medal, Brunswick, Germany, awarded to Ioh. Mayrowsky, Leib. Bt., 1815.
The Battle of Waterloo was fought on 18 June 1815, near Waterloo in present day Belgium. Napoleon’s army was defeated by the seventh coalition armies that included the United Kingdom, Prussia and Brunswick amongst others.
Obverse Description
Bust of Duke Fredrich Wilhelm of Brunswick facing left and wearing a cap.Surrounding inscription reads ‘Friedrich Wilhelm Herzog’. Artist’s name ‘Haseler’ appears at bottom of Wilhelm’s shoulder.
Reverse Description
Laurel branches frame the year ‘1815’ with surrounding inscription ‘Braunschweig Seinen Kriegern. Quatrebras und Waterloo’ (His Brunswick Warriors, Quatre Bras and Waterloo).
Edge Description
The edge is impressed “Aus Erobertem Geschutz” (“From Captured Artillery”).
