SMGP-2782 1933 East Hannover Gau Honor Badge

An official party decoration and not to be considered a tinnie, this is highly sought after and is high quality. (Gau Osthannover Ehrenzeichen). Constructed of coppered and blackened bronze with a horizontal pinback. Obverse features a centrally raised swastika surrounded by the inscriptions “GAUTAG OSTHANNOVER” and “IM JARHE DER NATIONALSOZIAL. EHRBUNG” while the top displays the year 1933. Footnote: As per Detlev Niemannm, Price Guide Germany: 1871-1945, 2008, hollow versions of this badge were distributed to distinguished NSDAP members as participants.

A Gau Commemorate Badge (Gau-Ehrenzeichen) were a political award of the Nazi Party, issued by various Gauleiters of the Nazi political districts to recognize loyal service or to commemorate an event. A Gau of Nazi Germany, which was a geographical region parallel to the traditional German states. The Gau badges were considered Party awards, but were not recognized as national awards. Regulations for award were determined by the Gauleiter as were any award degrees.
