Description

An early transitional from this company and they are not too easy to find. Hammesfahr was better known for its SS daggers. This dagger has an early style anodized scabbard which has lost nearly all of the original color and lacquer. the scabbard is dent free and is missing one screw on the lower drag fitting. The ball tip is in pretty good shape with a moderate side dent at the end. With these transitional daggers you get the benefit of nickel cross guards that would see on earlier daggers. The guards are not area marked which is proper for an RZM piece. The grip fitment is ok on this dagger but there as some gaps. this maker tends to have some gaps and a grip that overlaps the edge of the guards slightly. There is polishing residue in the gaps as well. This can be cleaned up if desired. This pommel nut is more then finger tight, so you will need a proper SA take down wrench if you want to inspect it further. The grip is a very nice cherry color with a nice SA enamel emblem. The Eagle is a light color metal and is likely aluminum but it could also be a lighter nickel alloy. Its got a “either or” kinda color to it. The blade is in average shape, showing some areas of oxidation but it was never heavily polished or worked on, so all of the original cross graining is still there. You can make out some areas where finger print oils have effected the blade. These should be able to be worked out if desired.
Overall, a nice transitional dagger from a lesser seen SA producer.
