Description
An exceptionally rare item here! In the very early days of the SS, when there were less than enough real members to fill a mess hall, one of the units of these “street bandits” was called Brigade Eberhardt. Even written records of the “exploits” of Brigade Eberhardt are nonexistent. Every once in a while you may find and obscure reference which shows the unit’s logo, a Viking ship sailing over oak leaves (which is the embossed stamp on this ID book). What is known is that this unit was very short lived. It was formed in 1 November 1933 and disbanded or merged or just eliminated a year later. Karl Holzmann, born 31 December 1883, joined this band of street thugs at the ripe old age of 51 in Berlin on 22 January 1934. He Contributed his dies of 1 RM for January and February (the stamps on the oilcloth) and that’s it. You will likely be the only person on the planet with this in your SS collection! Acquired from the Jay Gillespie collection.
