Description

A nice late model RZM dagger by the much-loved Tiger firm (Lauterjung). I think Tiger was one of the biggest victims of the RZM rules eliminating the use of trade logos. Thier Tiger logo was a very popular logo from a marketing point of view then, and even now. Anyhow, these late ones are noticablely lacking compared to early counterparts. The blade alignment is off a bit, the nickel plating is popping off the base metal on the guards. The blade iron seems to be lesser as these late RZM dagger seem to oxidize more easily. The blade on this one is no different as you can see a light hazy oxidation evidence on most of the blade. No deep pitting though. The edge is actually perfect with no nicks and the etched motto is nice and deep. The grip is a standout being nearly perfect with one some small chips near the top guard. The SA emblem is looking good with a little bit of verdigris near the bottom. The aluminum grip eagle is perfect. The pommel lug is more than finger tight and looking at the oxidation of the guard near the grip and condition of the grip i would say that this dagger has never been taken down (apart). The besides the grip, the other star of the show is the scabbard. This painted late version is in very fine condition with minimal wear and very little oxidation. The plated fittings are just as good and the best part…the ball end is PERFECT. The leather hanger clip is in good shape, but you may want to hit it with some leather restorer to keep it nice.  So, it’s not a mint dagger, but for a late model, it’s darn good and a great choice for your first SA.
