SMGM-0344 SA Treffen 1931 Badge 2nd type hollow back in gold

Here is an interesting SA treffen in brass. It is well made with a gold finish that has mostly worn away but is still visible in the recessed areas. The pin attachment is a style i have never seen before on this badge. Sometimes we see clunky military badge style hardware on these and no one is really in love with those. This one however feels right in the appropriateness of the hardware style. A notch up from the simple soldered safety pin version we are all familiar with.  Was it a custom ordered example? Maybe, it doesn’t seem all that unreasonable that someone wanted a better quality hardware set up after potentially breaking a few “regular ones”.  Was it for a higher rank since it was gold? Is it some weird fantasy badge? There is so much conflicting information and opinions with these, both in paper print and on the internet, I don’t think we will ever know with most of these. There are a few posts on the forums on why gold ones exist or didn’t. Again, eyebrows are raised but no one seems to know. I can tell you this came out of a collection that was 30 years old and most of the items were purchased int he 90’s, so it surely wasn’t made yesterday.  If you want to take a leap of faith, have at it. If not, that’s fine too. You make the call on this one.
