SMGM-4004 WW2 Era Japanese Naval Dirk

This dirk is the later style with the celluloid imitation ray skin grip. It has all metal fittings and metal cherry blossom Menuki. The blade has a high polish with simple ground edge with some evidence of a coarser sharpening at some point. The scabbard leather is stiff and dent free. The lower scabbard tip does not match the factory upper mount and appears to be a hand made replacement. a remarkable feat, that was possibly done in field with metal from spent shell casings. This lower fitting is a bit loose and can be removed from the rest of the leather scabbard. It is simply press fit but does have tack holes so it is possible to have a tradesman secure it more permanently. Not a bad little dagger here and a nice example for the first time Japanese dirk collector.
