During a major Soviet attack on the Mius front in July 1943, Major Misera and his Bataillon defended their sector against a vastly superior foe. As the Soviets brought up fresh forces, Misera got out of his trench, briefed some Sturmgeschütze nearby and used them to support a counterattack that he launched with his Bataillon. After a short but hard fight the Soviet forces were crushed. For this action Misera would receive the Knight’s Cross.

Recognizing the great danger this posed both for Seta and the German heavy weapons still deployed to the east of the village, Major Misera decided to assemble a counterattack force despite the heavy pressure on his own frontline. He quickly gathered up some stragglers as well as men from his own staff and moved out. Despite having only about 40 men and 5 Sturmgeschütze at his disposal he was nonetheless able to drive off the superior Soviet force, free the road up and restore contact with the neighboring unit. In the process heavy losses in men and materiel were inflicted on the Soviets.
Through this act the danger to Seta was removed and the defensive situation for the whole frontline of the Korpsabteilung “H” was secured. In recognition of his outstanding performance here Misera would be decorated with the Oakleaves.
