Description
An outstanding full grind example here. The blade has really been ground by someone who knew what they were doing. The grind is clean, even and not too deep. The grind has not altered the edge profile either. Original cross graining can still be seen on the motto side. The blade shows some oxidation scars where the runners sat on the blade for years with out being attended to. Those areas have since been treated and oiled to preserve the blade. The Nickel fittings look great with light wear. The lower guard is Fr marked. The pommel nut is more than finger tight and I have made no attempt to disassemble it. The pommel has a small scratch that might be a tool mark but no bad plier marks. The grip looks fantastic as well. with a nicely fit nickel eagle. There is a name lightly carved into it that starts with a “W” but it’s tough to make out the rest. The SA roundel shows some wear down to the copper flash metal and some of the enamel is missing. However, it still looks great on the dagger. The light grip wear that we do see on this dagger is at one of the lower inside curves and one of the upper inside curves from the fittings on the hanger. The scabbard itself is in decent shape, having no serious dents to the shell and the ball end is about as dent free as you can hope for. All nickel fittings as you would expect. This scabbard was converted to a NSKK scabbard at some point as we can tell the paint is rather unprofessional but in line with other period repaints we see. At the end of the day, it’s impossible to say exactly when this was done. A real nice dagger over all!
