Description

A rare dagger with a 13.5 inch blade. The blade features a sailing ship, Imperial crown, crossed oars and fouled anchor motifs. The blade is in excellent with light runner wear and the faintest signs of oxidation.  The guard and pommel nut are in great shape. Interestingly, there is a small hole drilled under the lip of the pommel into the grip. This hole is threaded and must have been for a set screw to keep the pommel from loosening. The actual screw is long gone. Im not sure if this was a common thing with this model as this is the first of these rare daggers Ive had to offer. I didn’t photograph it because it was hidden by the portepee cord. Speaking of which, it’s nice to see one of these original portepees still intact. It’s well-worn as you can see, but it still does the job and displays nicely. The genuine ivory grip is gorgeous and nearly pure white with almost no natural growth rings which we see with most Ivory. There is an old stress fracture on either side which is typical of genuine ivory. Amazingly, the scabbard is dent free, which you would imagine to be an amazing feat for a soft brass scabbard of this length and age. The brass is heavily worn on the throat, so the catch doesn’t really lock the scabbard in place. This is a really fantastic dagger and deserves a nice home in a high-end dagger collection!
