SMGL-2442 Late war Luftwaffe Ground Assault badge *SOLD

This badge is by a maker that I believe is still un known to the collecting community but still a 100% authentic piece. The hole in the eagle is from the manufacturing process. Originally, these badges were made in two pieces with a separate eagle fastened to the front of the main portion of the award. This gave the piece a more impressive 3D look. The molds would have the this hole for the connecting rivet in place. As time when on and there were time and material shortages, many makers decided to ditch the second piece. There was no time to make new dies or molds so they continued to issue the awards without the second eagle. Some makers inserted a rivet to fill the hole, others did not. The second eagle is not “missing” as it was not intended to be on this late of an example in the first place. We can clearly see that there was never a rivet in there in the first place as the hole is not faired out. Its a nice honest piece for half of what an early one would go for.
