Description

This is a nice dagger with the classic inspector stamp on the blade. We see this stamp on Weyersbergs often as they were a major contractor for Luftwaffe edged weapons and they were subjected to inspection by a separate service. This example has an aluminum pommel, cross guard and scabbard rings. The scabbard is in excellent shape and appears to have been a silvered version in contrast to the airplane grey finish we see. There are a half dozen or so marks on one side about halfway down the scabbard which appear to be the result of someone hitting the scabbard with another edged weapon. Possibly play sword fighting. The blade on this dagger is the more expensive plated variety. The plating has taken on a slight “pocking” or oxidation to the base metal. While not unsightly, it is not a mint conditioned blade. It is possible it can be cleaned up a bit. The grip has taken on a handsome medium dark orange color on the front side and appears a bit lighter on the reverse. This is due to how it was displayed and the effects of light to the celluloid. The grip is the solid celluloid version and is in great shape with only a very small hairline crack which appears to be very old and in no danger of further deterioration. A nice dagger overall.
