Description

A real slick medal here! The jump ring that is normally at the top for the ribbon loop was affixed to the back and it looks like it was Jewler modified that way. There were a few companies making these awards and at least one of them mounted the jump loop behind the head rather than on top, making the modification easier since the top of the eagle’s head didn’t need to be touched. This modification allows the award to sit more flush with the parade mount. The enamel is very nice with just a small scratch on the left side wing. The ribbon has some wear as you can see. There is a makers mark stamped into the back as well. This a very rare to find set up for this medal.

The Silesian Uprisings (German: Aufstände in Oberschlesien, Polenaufstände; Polish: Powstania śląskie) were a series of three uprisings from August 1919 to July 1921 in Upper Silesia, which was part of the Weimar Republic at the time. Ethnic Polish and Polish-Silesian insurrectionists, seeking to have the area transferred to the newly founded Polish Republic, fought German police and paramilitary forces which sought to keep the area part of the new German state founded after World War I. Following the conflict, the area was divided between the two countries. The rebellions have subsequently been commemorated in modern Poland as an example of Polish nationalism.
