A fascinating look into the teachings of the Third Reich. This appears to be a Nazi propaganda leaflet possibly for schools or university. The Third Reich (which means the third empire or third realm) was named as a way to connect the NSDAP (The Nazi Party) with the Holy Roman Empire (otherwise known as the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation).
The front reads: ‘Only brave people have a real history’. This would also indicate the propaganda use for this brochure.
This banner is an account of the history of Germany or the Holy Roman Empire from the 9th to the 20th centuries. It includes its most important milestones – wars, political events and technologies and important people – rulers, composers, artists, philosophers.
Included are: The Borgias, Michaelangelo, Shakespeare, Handel, Mozart, Brahms, Nietzche, various wars and technologies, and royalty.
The back reads: Instructions for using the history table. Search for the desired centuries or decades in a horizontal direction and then look vertically from the bottom up for the individual events (rulers, religions, movements, lifetimes of important men, art direction, etc.)
This banner was produced during WWII. The timeline has Adolf Hitler’s dictatorship and the Third Reich, along the bottom of the banner, carrying on into the 21st century. The last event on the timeline reads: Bohemia, Moravia and Memel – the Reich’s re-organisation of Europe. There is a pencil line marking the end of both the war and the Third Reich.
The banner consists of 12 centuries folded over. It measures approx. 12cm high with each century measuring 10cm. (120cm full width). It is in good condition although there is quite a bit of discoloration to the whole piece and foxing/marking to the front and back.
A fascinating historical banner from WWII from the Nazi perspective.
