SMGM-4111 Hitler Youth Master Shot Badge by M1/102 Frank & Reif

This is a gorgeous example of a controversial badge. You must be aware of that if you choose to purchase one of these. There seems to be concern over which ones are genuine and which are fake, but with no clear direction on any of the forums. On the HJ research forum they post some “obvious fakes” and there is discussion about some of the M1/120 badges being of concern. Jo Rivet made a comment about certain badges that have the pin attachment put on after the fire gilding would be suspect. I can tell you that this one, it is clear to see the pin was put on and then the fire gliding was done because you can see gold color on the solder. This badge also has the rifles cut out with a micro saw, which to me is a great sign. Also, there are some areas with a rainbow effect which would indicate the heating of the badge during the gilding process and those areas not having enough of the mercury/gold amalgam. Again, to me a good sign. So if this all sounds good to you, pull the trigger. If you can’t get on board, then that’s fine too.  there are no cracks on the enamel on this example and there are no finish issues.
