Ok, before you make an investment in one of these you must know that they are highly controversial. I’ve read hours worth of forum threads on these and there is to this day, no definitive answer as to why these exist today. The disbelievers say, “no period photos, no authorized documentation and no mention” means no way. The believers say, it exists, here it is, I bought them direct from vets, and some head of the BDM said smaller knifes were available but not sanctioned”. It’s really enough to make your head explode. You can go to the WAF and the HJ research forum to read up on them until your eyes are blurry. In the end the question will be….Do you want one anyway? If you do, here you go. And it’s the “more desirable” (from what others have mentioned) Steel hilt Robert Klaas version. All i know is, they are hard to find and some collectors still want them regardless of their origin story. This one shows typical HJ type wear sharpening. There is some verdigris on the rivets indicating nickel content. The scabbard is dent free and the HJ diamond is the same split pin style used in traditional sized HJ knife grips. It is not glued in, and has play just as a HJ grip diamond usually does. The diamond has inclusions in the red fields but no loss of material. The leather is in great shape and the snap works as it should.
