Description
This salty ol’ girl has seen better days, but it is original and not a bad early piece for the money. The scabbard has the original factory black paint. It is dent free with some wear and oxidation. The main issue here is that the screws were replaced at some point and the replacements are too big for this type of dagger. There is one screw missing on the throat as well. the lower fitting is loose, as it wiggles quite a bit. The brown leather hanger is actually very nice and has all nickel hardware. The blade shows evidence of polishing and there was a dried cosmoline protective grease or lacquer applied to it for blade preservation. It actually served its purpose, and the blade is almost completely rust free. There is still this protective residue left in the recesses of the motto. If removal is desired, some acetone would do the trick, just be sure to apply some light oil to the blade after to prevent rust. The grip was taken down at some point long ago and during this time the lower guard was reversed. The pommel nut is more than finger tight so i didn’t bother with fixing it. You can see some evidence of the grip being re-stained a long time ago as well. We can see brown stain residue on the guard. the eagle and SA roundel are in great shape and show no signs of being messed with. Again, not a perfect dagger, but it’s original and tells a story of past ownership.
