On the 15.01.1942, during the German attack on Feodosia, Hauptmann Jakob and his Bataillon took an important height in front of the city. In the process they also captured 2 Soviet batteries in open firing positions. The next day all hostile counterattacks were repulsed, with Soviet losses including 4 tanks.

On the 17.01.1942 a commanding ridge on the northwestern edge of Feodosia was stormed by Jakob and his men. Following this success, Jakob decided to continue the assault in order to prevent the Soviets from consolidating their defense in the field positions and anti-tank ditches on the northwestern edge of the city. He thus carried on beyond his original day’s objective and seized these positions during the evening in a battle that was partially fought in close combat. The northwest part of the city along both sides of the main road was also occupied.

Through this success the Regiment was able to take control over the whole city the next day. For his achievements during these three days of combat, Jakob would receive the Knight’s Cross.
