Description

It’s a miracle this modified bayonet still has the proper numbers matching scabbard considering what it’s been through.  The grip is the only modification. These clear plastic grips are thought to be aircraft plexiglass. They are durable and take a grinding wheel well, so they often seen in modified knives. This one is very nicely done, using a layer of Aluminium as a laminate to build up the clear plates to be flush with the rest of the hilt. Brass was used to make the pinned over rivets. The rivets and grips are completely flush with each other, indicating some real time/skill was put into this handle. The aluminum is inscribed “Harrier” (last name?) and can easily be seen through the plexiglass panel. The blade is cleaned down to a bare finish and has a non factory edge put on it. there are a few dings in the edge. The maker mark 41 fnj (fnj – Alexander Coppel Gmbh) is easy to read. The frog is in good but well used condition. It has aluminum rivets and hints of brown, possibly a Luftwaffe version. This isn’t the type of bayonet for a purist, but certainly a good pick up for someone who collects theater made US knives.
