Description

A stellar opportunity to grab this extremely rare and sought after award. With only 209 recipients, you may wait a lifetime to find another. Most are locked up with the families of recipients or in high end collections never to see the light of day.

The award is in mint condition aside from the small chip to the white enamel at the 12:00 position.  This Order is conferred upon military commanders in recognition of outstanding leadership, military training and/or gallantry. This was part of the full collection of awards from General Mirko Jovanovic. Of course, there is really no proof of this outside of my word and the word of the original seller…but it did come with some very rare awards, so there is little doubt that it was his. Here is the box opening video with all the medals https://youtu.be/UzlZQmjSLSI

It may also be known as the Order of the War Banner.

The obverse features an inscription in Cyrillic, translated as “FOR THE FREEDOM AND INDEPENDENCE OF THE SOCIALIST FATHERLAND”.

The Order of the War Banner It was founded by the Presidency of People’s Assembly on 29 December 1951, with one class. After that, a public competition for the design of the insignia was announced. The results of the competition were published in Politika on 27 August 1953, and the winner was Grigorij Samojlov, an architect from Belgrade. From its establishment in 1951 until 1984, there were 209 recipients of the order; 204 were Yugoslav citizens, and the remaining five were Soviet generals (who were all awarded in 1964).[1]
