SMGO-0713 Reserve Officer’s Pickelhaube w/Landwehr Cross

Here we have A gorgeous spiked helmet with a  Landwehr cross and Bandeaux  (motto) which was not the norm but is fairly common to find. The thinking is that the soldier was active and then later went into the reserves later and rather than paying for a new front plate without the motto, the cross was simply added to the existing plate. Purely an act of frugality. The officer chins scales are complete and in great shape. The leather chin strap is complete and in great shape as well. Hard to find good leather straps these days. There is some minor leather distortion and dent to the front visor. The spike spins freely but does not come off. Someone put a drop of epoxy on it to keep it from moving i think, but it still spins. The epoxy can be removed if desired. The inside leather is remarkably excellent with only some light wear. The silk liner is also in good condition but does show some wear. The inside hardware is all present and the original washers and square nuts are there. The front plate is the screw post type as you would expect on an officer’s version. A great opportunity to pick up an above average condition pickelhaube.
