The Order of St. George (Russian: Орден Святого Георгия), also known as the Order of Saint George, is one of the oldest and highest military orders in Russia. It was originally founded in 1769 by Tsarina Catherine the Great during the Russo-Turkish War. The order was awarded to honor particularly brave and outstanding military achievements and was both a symbol of honor and bravery.
