SMGQ-0337 July 17, 1944 News Week With Post Card send back from GI

This was sent back by an administrative Officer from the 9th Army. The message on the post card says ” A familiar Spot. Note the Bridge and read the article by Al Newman in the Battle Baby Newsweek of July 17 I sent home once.”  The post card shows a french bridge over a canal in Carentan. Interestingly the article he was referring to do not have the Authors name on it so i had to read most of the magazine myself to figure out what which article he was writing about. Anyway, the article just mentions Carentan. So the soldier was just trying to give his family member a picture reference and perspective that he was close to the action. If you are not familiar, these old newsweeks are half size, being 6×8″.
