Description
This dagger has its wins, and its losses. The price will reflect late war craftsmanship and a grip that sits slightly off center. The dagger no doubt left the factory in good shape, but time has had other plans for this one. The late style grip is plaster filled celluloid. At the top of the grip when the pommel is removed, you can clearly see the celluloid has been deformed. I would speculate that high heat had something to do with it. This irregularity, coupled with the internal wear of the plaster and a slight bend to the tang make the pommel sit a little offset. With some tweaking you can get it to look pretty good, but it will never be perfect. The blade on this piece is actually very nice, retaining most of its cross graining. The blade is un marked, which we do find some time to time, especially on later examples where corners were cut. There are no dings or dents to the blade and only some light runner marks and the faintest signs of oxidation. The scabbard is fantastic, showing most of the original airplane grey finish and very light oxidation. We can tell the dagger is an unmarked WKC by the style of the pommel, cross guard and the scabbard. It’s good to know at this low price point, that all the pieces belong together. If you are thinking about taking the plunge and getting your first dagger, this might be an affordable way to do it and still have a decent piece.
