Description
Well, this dagger you have to take at face value. It’s genuine, but it’s been though the ringer. I suspect, the dagger was badly oxidized, damaged scabbard, and damaged grip. The owner likely replaced the grip and added a scabbard that was in good shape. The scabbard is one of those “ambiguous” types where it doesn’t really look black, and it doesn’t really look brown. So it’s somewhere in the middle. It’s an anodized style, and it’s clear that the fittings where removed or replaced at some point. Id say this was mostly likely from an SA dagger. The blade and cross guards are original and are a perfect match to each other. We know Boker made in house guards, which are distinct in appearance. These are not them. We also know they sub contracted out guards from another foundry who marked their guards with an “H” on the inside, which is exactly what we have here. The blade has been severely polished, likely to clean up bad rust. At some point, the blade and the guards were sent off to be nickel plated in an attempted to cover up the pitting and bring the dagger back to life. We can still see the pitting under the “new” finish. There is wear to the tip of the dagger, god knows why that happened..maybe this was used as a digging tool in the garden???? From this wear at the tip we can easily see the difference between the nickel plating at the base metal. The tang of the blade is stamped with a foundry mark.
So, if you have been looking for a “real” SS dagger and trying to stay under $1,000 this may be an option for you. If you are looking for a text book Boker, this is not for you, but you better be prepared to shell out 3-4 thousand.
