Description
This collection of items came from the family of Frederick Bacon, along with the Nazi items Fred brought back. The rest of Mr. Bacons family are getting older and they had no one to pass Fred’s items on to. This is how this very complete set has come to the public market. We see with the documentation that Fred was in Company H of the 393rd Infantry in the 99th Division. He served as a truck driver and saw action in the Rhineland, Central Europe. He obtained his combat infantry badge, American campaign medal, euro/African/middle eastern campaign medal, good conduct medal and ww2 victory medal as per his report of separation. The bronze star I would assume was awarded after the discharge documentation was done. It was likely in the process of being approved at the time of discharge. Both the bonze star and the good conduct medal are named to Fred Bacon on the awards. All of the Awards are modern replacements. The Combat Infantry badge is sterling marked. This collection also includes % of his selective service cards, registration and classification certificates, Tactical Center pass, Aircraft warning Service pass, immunization register, soldier’s pay record, 2 military drivers permits, various insignia and even Crematory ID tags from him and presumably his wife. We don’t often get to keep groupings like this together, so this is a rare treat for a collector looking to tell a story about a man from the greatest generation.
