Description
The blade on this dagger is stellar and it’s nice to see a really nice blade on an SA/NSKK as they seem to be harder and harder to find these days. The grip is absolutely gorgeous as well, with no major issues outside of a small dent on the reverse. The lower guard is area marked “WF” which is not a known area of distribution for F. Dick. This means the guards were likely replaced at some point. there is a fair amount of verdigris on the top of the lower guard which corresponds to the verdigris on the the scabbard hanger loop. So, this doesn’t appear to be a modern parts dagger to me. Possibly the returning GI was swapping parts with a damaged dagger and wound up with this combination? We can only speculate. the scabbard is a perfect mate for to the lower guard. The scabbard shows some typical wear but the ball end is in pretty good shape, hard to find these days. Under the black paint is the original anodized and lacquered color. As we know, many SA men simply painted their scabbards when they transferred to the NSKK. The hanger is also very nice on this dagger. the leather is very good. The hanger has steel fittings by Assmann. This is really a superior dagger condition wise, we just have the question mark regarding the blade not technically being appropriate for the area marking on the guards. A gorgeous dagger to add to your collection regardless.
