Description

A nice early dagger here with all the proper fittings you would expect from the time period. The Eickhorn logo is placed lower on blade, closer to the lower guard which was done to make room for the Rohm Inscription. Upon Rohm’s assassination, orders were sent out to remove the inscription from the daggers. Some were crudely ground off. Others like this were more professionally done. Still not as good as a factory grind, the modifier polished the blade on both sides to hide the modification. Luckily, not too much material was removed and we can still easily see the Eickhorn logo and the SA motto on the other side. The lower guard is marked “Fr” which was a known area for Eickhorn distribution. The pommel nut is more than finger tight, and I have made no attempt to take it down. The scabbard shell is dent free. There is a small dent in the lower scabbard fitting. The ball end looks great, but a little off center, so it may have been dropped at some point. The upper throat screws show signs of being turned and if you look closely the top of the fitting that meets the throat looks like it is slightly bent in. I think this all points to throat removal. I would assume after the grinding of the inscription, the throat was removed to bend the runners a bit to grab the newly thinned out blade better. Just a guess really.  The grip looks great with no cracks or chips. The grip eagle is perfect. the SA roundel has a small chip in the enamel. A fascinating piece of history.
