Description

In 1934 the RAD EM Hewer was authorized for wear by RAD career officers and NCO?s on formal occasions. It was designed by Paul Casburg and based upon an old German wood cutting hatchet. The Hewer had a practical use as well as worn on dress occasions.

This model is a later style that we see with a nickle over steel hilt/tang. The Genuine stag grips are in great shape. The grip screws are showing some corrosion on the side opposite the heads. The screw heads clearly have never been messed with, as they look perfect. The steel blade is in average condition, as these pieces were often used in the field and the blades were subject to much abuse and lack of proper care. What I really like about this blade though, is that is has the factory edge and has never been sharpened. There are a few dings to the edge near the tip and some deep oxidation marks, but again, this is fairly typical. We see a clear “ED. Wusthof” Logo with The RAD triangle. While not a rare maker, they don’t show up as much as some other firms.
The scabbard is in good shape, although most of the paint has worn from the scabbard. I’m not sure I would repaint this one, as it matches the condition of the blade nicely. The nickle plated fittings are holding up pretty good, but we do some some small bubbling. All in all a nice honest piece. I doubt you can find a better price on a similar condition dagger, so don’t wait to long to snag it.
