Criteria: Heroic actions or meritorious service while participating in aerial flight. For Marines: Current regulations do not allow numerals, stars, and V on this award at the same time. Regulation allows V with Gold Star and V with numerals but stars and numerals are not allowed together. Awarded to any member of the U.S. Armed Forces who distinguishes themselves by heroism, outstanding achievement, or by meritorious service while participating in aerial flight.
