Description
A typical late model with related condition issues to the materials. This one has aluminum cross guards, and the nickel plating has shed away from a good portion of the base metal. Still, more attractive than the zinc version in my opinion. The pommel nut does not show any tool marks and is more than finger tight. I have not broken down the dagger for inspection since it appears to be in untouched and uncleaned condition. The cherry wood grip is in excellent condition and shows only minor wear and abrasions. The eagle is the nickel type which is nice to find on a later dagger. The SA enamel button looks pretty good too, with just a few imperfections and no major damage. The blade has a few dings on the edge from play sword fighting it looks like, but they aren’t too deep. The blade retains its original edge. The blade shows some hazing from light oxidation but no pitting. Typical blade wear from the runners is present. Through all that, you can still see the cross graining, so it doesn’t look like this has ever seen any polish. We are fortunate to have the original belt loop and connection strap which are in very good condition. The scabbard has the appropriate late model attributes, painted and nickel-plated steel fittings. Unfortunately, it looks like the youngster who this dagger was given to after the war unknowingly scratched his name “Reagan” into it with a series of swastikas. If not for that, this scabbard would be in excellent condition. With the demand for SA daggers right now, I don’t expect these issues to hold it back much.
