Description
An interesting eagle here. Early brass or tombak eagles were changed over to aluminum and are tough to find. Aluminum was already the proper color so they could save a few steps in the manufacturing process. I’m sure there was also a material shortage as brass was needed for ammunition. You can still see the silver wash on the reverse. What is interesting is the darkening that was left behind in the recessed areas. This, from the best I can tell, is how the base coating oxidized after the lacquer and silver coating was compromised.
