Description

It’s not often we get the chance to add a published SS dagger to our collections. This one can be found on page 202 and 203 of  “The Service Daggers of The SS” By Ralf Siegert 2014.

The scabbard is currently an unknown maker. It is transitional, that is to say it has all nickel fittings with a RZM blade. The eagle and roundel are also nickel. The roundel has a small nick in the enamel. The grip is in near mint condition with only a small dent below the eagle and some typical hanger dents. The dent below the eagle can also be seen in Siegert’s book. As it should be, the lower guard is un marked. These unmarked solid nickel guards are typical of most transitional pieces as firms were still using up their old fittings and were not required to mark them any longer. The scabbard is painted and dent free with nickel fittings. The screws do show signs of being turned so there is a good bet the scabbard was repainted or at least taken down for Maintenace long ago. The hanger is in good shape and is unmarked. The fittings here are also nickel. There is a slight dent to the ball end. The blade on this dagger is in very fine condition. I would rate it a 9 out of 10. In fact, it looks better in person than it does in Siegert’s book, which is one of the reasons I was happy to snatch it up. You can see in the book the same imperfections but mainly, there is a 1/4in scratch to the lower right of the RZM logo which can easily be seen and compared in the book.  If you are looking for a nice condition dagger that has the additional book provenance and stature, this is sure to please!

This dagger also comes with a 3 ring binder that has blown up pictures from Siegert’s book.
