Description

Alfred Rosenberg, Hitler, Hess, Goering, Rommel and another heer general. This is a pretty heavy duty picture in terms of who’s in one shot. It’s interesting that Hess isn’t in his SS uniform but in his political uniform. What’s even more interesting, from a historical time line this picture tells us some interesting things about Rosenberg. He is clearly wearing a RMBO visor, but doesn’t seem to have any rank collar tabs. July 17, 1941, Hitler appointed him Reich Minister for the Occupied Eastern Territories and that was AFTER Hess took his insane trip to Scotland in may 1941. So if you are a uniform timeline nerd, this means that The RMBO insignia was created at least as early as April 1941 because this photo HAD to have been taken before May 10th 1941! Now, Rommel was sent to Africa in February, but he was often summoned back to meet with hitler. Based on the train, this picture was taken in occupied France. So, either that’s not Rommel in picture, or this photo must have been taken between late February and the first week of May 1941. The post card says 1940, which would mean that the RMBO insignia was around 7+ months before it was “formed” or at least, when Rosenberg was charged with heading it. If anyone else wants to engage in a nerd out conversation about this photo..shoot me an email!

The card itself has a substantial curl to it which could be fix with a weight and a humid bathroom. There is also a missing section at the bottom left corner. and a small tear in the lower center.
