Description

We are pleased to offer this historically significant ID of a female SS guard at Ravensbruck from the Jay Gillespie collection. There are only a dozen or so known examples of authentic female camp guard Ausweis. By acquiring this collection, we are able to bring most of them to the market for public offering for the first time in nearly 25 years. You will not find these anywhere else.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Included with the Ausweis you will receive a copy of the correspondence from the well known author and paperwork historian Emilie Caldwell Stewart to the Ravensbruck Memorial foundation which validates the existance of this guard (and others) at the Ravensbruck concentration camp. The letter states that after research in the archives they have provided information about the ID’s that have been forwarded to them. It then goes on to list the names of the guards and the beginning and end dates of work at the camp. It goes on to say that at Ravensbruck and it’s subcamps, salaries and service was for a specific pre determined time and amount. They also say that they cannot confirm this was the same at other camps outside of the Ravensbruck network. Finally, well wishes and a desire to stay in touch.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This one is signed by the SS Oberstrumfuhrere, likely in leu of Frits Suhren, or Wally could have been at a separate subcamp that Suhren did not frequent. I have not research the owner of the signature but I would imagine it is obtainable. The rarity and historical significance of these Ausweis cannot be stressed enough. Do not let this museum caliber item slip away.
