SMGM-3082 2nd Model Luftwaffe dagger by Eickhorn

This is a nice uncleaned dagger with a desirable deep orange grip. The pommel shows a lot of dirt in the recessed areas insuring this thing hasn’t been cleaned in a very long time and is likely why there is so much of the gold on both pommel swastikas left. The same can be said for the cross guard. The grip is  the real star hear with it’s deep orange color and no major damage. It’s has old scuffs that have darkened over time and add to the vintage look of the entire piece. There are two hairline cracks at the top which i have inspected and feel they are more superficial in nature and as long as you don’t crack down on the pommel, they are not in jeopardy of worsening. The pommel is only finger tight and can come off for maintenance and inspection if desired. I inspected it to make sure the grip was in good order and found know issues. The blade has the stamped Eickhorn squirrel and is not too bad but does have plenty of runner marks on it and some evidence of some light oxidation. I would rate it a 6.5 out of 10 and it seems to suit the condition of the rest of the dagger just fine. The scabbard is dent free and is your typical steel shell with aluminum hanger bands. There is some wear to these bands from the steel eye loops, furth proving this was no wall hanger, but an officer’s main carry piece. The rest of the scabbard has some superficial oxidation and finish loss that matches the rest of the dagger just fine. Overall, a nice honest dagger with some condition issues that’s a reall score if you are looking for a reasonably priced deep orange grip.
