SMGM-3775 Army dagger By Eickhorn

This is the first pattern guard style from Eickhorn with a nice solid celluloid grip that has that sort of translucent look that makes it kinda look like glass. One of my favorite looking types of grips. The grip shows no major issues and is in excellent condition. Now, for transparency sake, this grip at some point in recent years was modified inside to properly fit the dagger. The tang is the old style with heavy grinds and a bit wide so it seems some adjustment to this grip was needed to fit properly. One of two things is possible. First, the grip could be a replacement for a broken grip. Second, the grip could have been stuck on the tang from the celluloid shrinking over time. Then, once off, the grip was modified to make inspection and cleaning easier in the future. If you look at the pictures you can see the inside is white and there are fresh file marks. This usually is only seen when old celluloid is damaged or re shaped. I will say, the person who did it, did a good job and the workmanship is clean and of the style of the old days. For me, this isn’t a big deal, but i wanted to make sure the new owner knows exactly what he or she is getting. In time, the celluloid will turn back to yellow like the rest of the outside. The fittings are heavy silver plate with a light grey toning. The condition of the guard is excellent with no major wear spots or plate lifting. The blade is in fairly good shape with some greying in spots from previous moisture damage. There are no signs of heavy abrasives being used and it just shows wear marks from the runners. The tip has a slight bend to it with some darkening. The scabbard has a nice matching light grey appearance and is in good shape until we get to the tip and see some oxidation, possibly from moisture somehow getting inside the scabbard and resting at the bottom while in storage vertically. So if you are looking for a value oriented dagger that displays great, this is for you.
