Description
This is a rare treat to own a ss dagger that’s likely never been broken down. The pommel nut is more than finger tight and snows no tool marks or other evidence of being removed. On top of that, the grip fitment to the guard is super tight, with oxidation and debris build up at the edges. These things would be very hard to recreate on a dagger that has been broken down and cleaned. There was a tremendous amount of verdigris on the blade and top of the guard that meets the scabbard throat. I did take the liberty of removing this with just some q tips because it was unsightly and really detracted from the piece. You can still see some of the original verdigris where the blade meets the guard. The blade appears to have been cleaned with an abrasive and there are also some rather coarse marks perpendikular to the edge. It seems to be only on the maker side, which tells us this was lily a Rohm dagger that has been ground down. You can see further fine grit sanding marks on the top of the guard as well, likely and effort to clean up some incidental marks from the blade grinding and sanding. Whoever did it, didn’t take much material off and the maker logo remains well preserved and sharp. the edge appears to still be the original factory edge. The grip is phenomenal on this dagger with no damage or chips and only some very light wear. The early nickel grip eagle and SS runes are also perfect. The early nickel guards are uncleaned showing a nice grey with hints of Green Verdigris. the scabbard is a very nice anodized type appropriate to this era of dagger. The nickel fittings are slightly brighter than the dagger guards which is usually due to the different metal ratios in the allow. There is some verdigris on the hanger loop. The screws appear to have been turned at some point. The lower ball end tip shows only some minor dents and still looks great. The anodized scabbard shows some light oxidation and there is also a dent on the one side. Still, it’s nice to find an un painted original these days that’s in good condition. a solid example that you likely won’t get tired of looking at.
