SMGO-0474 SS Officer Degan, Dachau Produced

These Dachau swords are found unmarked like this one, and PMD Rostfrei on some. This one has the typical high carbon steel blade with matte satin finish. The blade is in mint condition with no rust or major chips or dents. The slightest signs of wear are evident. The buffer pad is brown leather and not the normal black we see on Dachau swords, so it’s possible it is a replacement.  As is normal for Dachau produced swords, there is no “SS proof stamp” on the scabbard throat or under the D guard.

The fittings are stainless steel which is a main attribute to these Dachau examples. The pommel nut is a silvered steel and threads directly into the tang. The ebony wood grip is in choice condition showing light wear and still has dark coloration. There are a few chips near the SS roundel and one on reverse that is noticeable, but they seem to be very old and have little effect on its overall appeal in my opinion. The SS roundel is in the typical position we see on Dachau examples, stating about halfway on the 5th rib. The stainless D guard shows some light wear but is still in excellent condition.

The scabbard is in fantastic shape but i do believe it was professionally repainted at some point. The throat has the typical flush head side screws we find on Dachau swords and the lower drag is press fit as it should be.

Overall, a very fine example of a desirable sword!
