Description
SHEEEEEE……..Now this is the kind of second model you want for your collection! Let’s start off with a fantastic alcoso marked blade with minimal wear, a 9/10. Hand chased oak leaves on the top of the guard and hand enhancements on the pommel. The grips is a fantastic natural ivory with some darkening on the front and excellent looking natural stress cracks on the back. If you are not familiar with Ivory, these marks are naturally occurring in the grain of the ivory and are considered aesthetically pleasing and an easy to spot sign of authentic ivory. The grip is finished of with a double wire brass wrap. I personally love this type of grip wrap because it looks clean and doesn’t get easily damaged. The scabbard is fantastic, being dent free and having a heavy lacquer coat. There is some light orange discoloration around the bands from some superficial oxidation. The scabbard bands appear to be the alcoso style although the throat screw is in the back as opposed to two sides screws we normally see with Alcoso. Many makers were switching to this method later in the period as a cost saving measure. The hangers are a fantastic deluxe set with the nicer fittings. The clips show a fair amount of gilt or gold finish remaining, indicating these are the so called “generals hangers”.
Together with the ivory grip and the gold hangers, it’s likely this dagger was for a general or other high rank. Really a great investment piece here!
