The following newspaper excerpt (dated 09./10.01.1943) describes why Hauser received the Knight’s Cross…
“Hauptmann Hauser shot down 6 aircraft, and destroyed a further 20 aircraft (on the ground), 85 railway cars, 16 locomotives and over 100 trucks.”
By this time Hauser had flown 125 sorties. Other sources state that his materiel successes also included the destruction of 10 tanks and 20 artillery positions.
