Description

A gorgeous near mint nickel plated blade with just light runner wear. The blade is inspector stamped just above the expertly executed SMF logo. This is an earlier nickel hilt and nickel scabbard fittings. This one was silver frosted as compared to some silver-plated versions. The pommel unfortunately was very badly oxidized with poch marks and it was decided to polish the pommel up in order to better preserve it for future owners. The nickel will eventually age to match the rest of the sword but right now it is a bit brighter than the rest. Most early nickel swords you see on the market are polished as well, but it’s not really pointed out by because it looks good after it ages a bit. The grip leather is in good shape with most of the wear on the belt side. The scabbard and fittings are dent free. The scabbard leather has one good ding to it but looks like it could be fixed with a bit of glue. The rest of the leather is pretty darn good for its age. The sword also comes with the original leather hanger which can be hard to find, especially on these earlier ones. There are a few speckles of wall paint on the entire piece. You would be amazed at the amount of items that come in with interior wall paint speckled on them! People don’t cover or move their stuff! The sword throat is stamped “3” as well as under the cross guard. It looks like part of a “2” is stamped on the cross guard at a different angle, suggesting the tool used for stamping was some sort of dial. These stamps are usually Garrison inventory stamps. A great chance to pick up a more desirable early nickel sword at a great price!
